Mike
Sinclair's photo “Anne's Wedding” shows a backyard party, one
with simple conversations and plenty of soda cans. A closer look at
the image triggers questions: Did Anne settle for a picnic reception?
Does the unknown Heineken drinker have a secret connection with the
woman at the table? And what do the suburban neighbors think? The
questions that we ask ourselves as we view this photo along with
others, are what makes art interesting. One of the reasons
photographs are so effective as art are these intrigues. The
fascination and wonder about a captured moment, leaves us as voyeur
and inspector. Mike Sinclair is one of the artists featured in the
Gladstone Community Center's Permanent Art Collection, and his photo
is part of the Personal Effects
exhibition at the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art. See it and the
rest of the evocative show that runs through October 12. It's a great
one! You can visit this link for more details:

Last night was the official opening of Carole Booth's show at the public art space located in the Gladstone Community Center. Carole and her husband Bill, moved to Gladstone about 2 years ago from the Minneapolis, MN area. She has worn many creative hats during her life as a landscape designer, graphic artist, and at one point a stained glass worker. She is now an active member of the Northland Art League and had many fellow league members out to show their support. Carole didn't start painting with pastels until later in her life, but to see her work, you wouldn't know it! Carole gave an excellent talk on her process using pastels and the origins of that medium. Gladstone Arts Commission member Christine Yannitelli welcomed the crowd and was a great host during Carole's talk. Mayor Barry McCullough and his wife Anita, were both present and are great supporters of the Arts in our community. Click here to watch as Carole explains her process. Carole's work will be on display for the next 5 weeks. Please come and check out the show if you weren't able to make it out last night. Below are just a few shots we took from the opening!
Thanks for looking!
